Ferns are a safe option.Hi All,
So Last night I made a home depot trip, and bought flowers, planning to put them in my quail coop.
I got
Snapdragons
dianthus mix
Yellow pansies
White pansies
ARe they safe to put in their coop?

Quail are ground dwelling birds and therefore appreciate the plants, for shade, hiding spots and snacks.
You're right, I didn't understand what you're getting at. Thank you for clarifyingFishychix, I’m not sure you understood what I was getting at. I know why quail would benefit from having plants in their enclosure, but a person could have aesthetic reasons and/or utilitarian reasons to put plants in an animal enclosure.
“Ferns” are a common commercial name for many different plants. Some are true ferns. Some are not. Getting the scientific name for a plant and then looking it up is the best way to see if it will be a safe choice. You could always do the research after you buy that must-have plant and put it somewhere else if it turns out it is not (whichever pet) friendly. That’s how I ended up with half a dozen Asparagus Ferns in my office.

Are asparagus ferns not bird safe then? I should also have clarified by saying Boston Fern. That giant fern that comes to most peoples mind when you say fern. But, yes, not everyone thinks of the same thing and reading a label and just seeing the word 'fern' could cause some issues.![]()
