Hi,
I keep having to lower and raise my heat lamp the past couple of days to correct temps! It was over 100 in the brooder due to the fact that it's like 90 outside. My chicks are in my spare room in my home. Then I have to lower in later in the evening when it cools off outside.
This temp fluctuating, is it going to hurt my chicks? I can't control the heat outside but I can inside the brooder. It has been unusually warm here the past couple of days! If I can get it at around 90 or so, is that ok? It is so hard to get the temps right, I did watch the chicks when it was that hot and they really didn't seem to mind that much but I have heard that higher brooder temps can cause problems too. They are 4 days old today. Thoughts please!!
Thanks!

Mine are the same age and I noticed the same thing today. I just raised the heat lamp up a couple inches when I noticed them resting around the edges of the brooder. Now that the sun is setting, I'll keep an eye on the temp to see if I need to lower the light at night and raise again during the day.

These are my first chicks so I don't know if this is a common part of chick raising. I'm just so glad I've been scouring the posts for advice and read about letting the chicks tell you if they are too hot or cold by their behavior. That's what clued me in to raise the lamp a bit.

Thanks BYCers for your help!
