Fluffy lamb's Bantam Cochin thread!

One hatched black and the rest were partridge. They were all supposed to me black, so I'm kinda confused.

Was their a partridge roo? Although black is a dominant gene sometimes that's not always the case. The chicks probably got the resesive gene. This can happen when you are breeding budgies. I had two green budgies. A electric Opaline green and a olive green. However one out of every two clutches was a violet!

The rooster was partridge. I thought she was pure black, But I guess not. I'm not mad, because it saves me a generation in breeding. I was hoping the black one was a boy, but actually if he was a boy I wouldn't be able to hold him back and breed to back to his mom though they are black both still carry partridge, and if I would sell their hatching eggs people would get some partridges.

Here are some other breeding pen designs I've found, but I think the first one is better for extra roosters.

This one is better for people with lots of space who are selling hatching eggs. Sense they would get tons of orders on some more expensive breeds this is grea. Having tons of eggs everyday so orders can actually be made!

This one is good but I would make it a bit taller so the chickens have more room and so bigger chickens can live in there.

I really like these! They would be nice!

Oooh, I love to hear that! Them going from seemingly mostly unheard of to showing up here and there like that has been such a joy for me to witness! :love
That place was where I first learned about them, I think. I think the one I saw was white, but it could have been splash. If I see one for sale this year I'll likely get it.

Share all the pictures if you do! :D I love them so much!

I only had one silkied White hen, my darling Dandelion who hatched out with my first group of silkied Blacks, but I sadly lost her early this year. Very nearly broke on my decision to focus on the BBS for now in order to set up a pen of Whites after she passed. Funny thing is I generally don't care for solid white plumage in chickens, but man, I just really loved that bird!

After trying to hatch Splashes for three years, though, I finally hatched some this year!! :yesss:

I doubt I would be able to get a male/female pair, probably one or the other. I would cross with regular feathered cochins, then breed breed offspring back to them to get silkieds. Should I try to keep colors pure, or do you think I should just mix them?
