Lol. They aren’t very heavy, but I think the wind helps them fly... seems like they fly on windy days.It depends on body weight and how they are shaped. Hatchery Rouens aren't built like SQ.
Doesn't mean they are inferior just made different.
Runners aren't suppose to fly either but one of mine scaled a 4 foot fence once.
I’ve always read that Rouens are too big to fly!
hwat breed are they? oh, nvmWish they would just stay on the ground lol..supposedly they’re “too big” to fly!![]()
agreed, they do look small for rouensYour drakes appear to be on the small size for Rouens, and from your avatar appear to vary in size. They may be mallard/Rouen crosses. This would increase their tendency to fly. Yes, it is conceivable that they might get blown so far away that they might become disoriented.

Aww!! You’ll have to let me know if she comes back! I’m sooo scared they fly away and never come back! They are my babies! I’m probably going to look for someone that knows how to clip Wings.we had three mallards, and despite me trying to clip their wings they still flew. our smallest mallard hen loved to fly. she would circle the yard and always came back. i did get scared a few times if the dogs spooked her, she would take off so fast and high. she would keeep quaking and quaking like she couldnt find her home from that high. the shed they were in is tree covered, so i would grab another duck and shake it or tickle its feet so it would quack. sure enough here would come that other one flying right into her pen. she did end up flying off in the fall one and im curious to see if she will fly home in the spring.
clipping wings really scared me too, i tried it on our turkeys and ducks but wasnt successful with either. make sure you cut enough off and have a partner. that was my problem, cutting by myself.
