It might be the water attracting them after you wash down the gravel. I can go from no problem, then hose some stuff down and all of the sudden, ta da flies. They go away when the humidity does. Maybe a fan to help dry it out?

This is one of my many motivations to keep a couple muscovy ducks in with the others. They are ugly, sound funny, and oddly equipped with a claws, but they are master fly catchers. Super handy ducks

My girls eat every thing that is unlucky enough to check out their pen.

I turn over the fresh poop daily into my deep litter bed. I have compost worms that are breeding and thriving despite the feasting by my ducks.

*except chipmunks..the girls are active subscribers to the chipmunk emergency broadcast system. if they hear a chipmunk alarm chirp they run to the pen if they're in the yard or they go in their houses if they're inside the pen.
