Our run is a very large open outdoor run that connects to the coop, but has string hanging down to prevent any aireal attacks. Recently we have seen so many fly's in the run area. A ton. They swarm around bits of poop. The run is large enough that the chickens can have some peace from it, but I also worry about the number of fly's. No fly problems in the coop. We rarely see any in the coop, but the run is another story. Is this a problem?

This time of the year i get em in my run. If they sit to long one of the girls normally handles it. I think it must be fly season.

Do you feed scraps or left overs and dump it on the run floor? It's normal for Flys to be all over poo . Don't stress yourself out.

Okay, thank you. As long as they are not in the coop I won't worry about it. Thanks. We usually give them little fruits, but they clean them up without any left behind, so I'm pretty sure its just the poop.

If the flies are a huge problem, some livestock stores like Valley Vet Supply and others, sell fly predators - insects that don't bite, sting or annoy people, they just feed on flies and their larva. Our horse barn buys them every year and it helps a lot!
