Posted the other day with bad photo so reposting again and will delete the other. 8 month pullet has lice we found and treated about 5 days ago (they are not gone) and we didnt see this until yesterday...it is below the vent maybe 2-3 inches and between legs. Neighbor suggested flystrike. What do you think?

Posting far away photo and zoomed, she has dirt on her from dust bath we had just given.

We found many fleas or mites (cant tell, they are too small but scampered when i would part feathers so thought fleas) on this one 3 days ago and treated with permethrin spray. Today we bathed her (didn't see any more parasites) and found this gnarly growth. It is hard and I couldn't remove it gently. What is this?!?

Do you see any maggots on the wound?

Give her a good soaking in warm soapy bath, if there's maggots, you should see them in the bath water.
Once you dry her, clean the wound with Chlorhexidine, then apply triple antibiotic ointment to the wound.

If you do find maggots, then pick off what you can, repeat soaking, removing what you can, then treat the wound.

Have all the mites died? You mentioned on another thread there were fleas too? Hopefully with soaking in soapy water, the debris will come off in the water too.

thanks so much! we bathed her yesterday and there was nothing in the water. i also saw a photo of clogged feather follicle that looked like it might be that. i cant tell! but no movement that i can see and no visible maggots and not in the bath water.

i think they are fleas, not mites but not sure. there are visible white eggs at base on feathers on neck and they scamper when i part feathers.

This sounds like lice, not fleas or mites. You can treat them with permethrin poultry dust and also put some of it in their preferred dust bath so they will treat themselves.

I would keep soaking the lesion for at least 10-15 minutes and see if there is some kind of plug that can be removed or if it is rather something like a tumor.
And maybe check her allover very carefully to see if there might be more lesions/tumors elsewhere on her body.
Squamous cell tumors look similar

argh, yes, thank you. I meant lice but my head is so scrambled from researching all this and panicking LOL. Okay, great advice to soak and see if we can pull anything out.

Update that after a 30 min epsom salt soak, I was able to get it off by gently wiping with a cotton pad (trying to cleab before preparing to tweeze!). No feather came out and also no maggots. Weird! Seemed superficial because the area underneath looked intact. Will try to get photot later. Thanks so much!!
