So, apparently everyone in Western NY is out of Barley until August. What other seed are you folks using for fodder???

I've used wheat, sunflower, buckwheat, field peas.
They like the wheat and sunflower more than the latter two.
Oats don't seem to make good fodder or sprouts but I have sprouted them.
Barley does work great though.

Other things like alfalfa, sorghum, millet and lentils are options but I haven't used them for chickens - yet.

What kind of wheat are you using? Winter wheat? Plain old wheat? The guy at the feed store suggested a Jerry Oat?? (sp).
