Food Agression

This is an example of the problem I want my chicken to "solve". These caterpillars are everywhere here are two photos of my steps on the back porch and trust me they are thicker in the yard this is scorpion food:barnie

If they are hairy, your birds may not eat them. Some of those caterpillars are poisonous. So are some insects. So, while your birds may clean up a lot of pests, they will not clean up all pests. Your birds generally know what is safe to eat, and what is not, be it plant or insect.

I would sweep them into a bucket of soapy water. Rinse and repeat till infestation is gone.
The chicken love them and my feed bill is nothing at all right now. They eat so many of these things they just laze around the property or in the coop most of the day. Guess I could soap spray the driveway and porch as the chicken don't go there yet, but spraying an entire Acre isn't tenable at that point it is time to reach for a BT type powder to paralyze their digestive tracts, but then I do not know if that is a chicken safe option...it probably is. Probably safer to scalp the lawn and grind them all up. We have had 2+ inches of rain this week then these guys exploded but some butterfly had to actually lay all the eggs that turned into this crazy amount of larva.

If you only lived here you would understand it isn't uncoupled from reality. People's dogs are frequently stolen from their yards to be used as bait for fighting dogs. I had had a chewed up looking pit bull roam onto my property when the lawn guy was here the dog was sweet but emaciated. After one week of food and vet care with treatment for all of her worms and coccididia she felt she was once again in fighting shape and got hold of one one of my gals. My wife and I managed to get her off my dog and you couldn't imagine how fast that animal transitioned into a killing machine it took me 25 minutes of tugging it by its harness to get it across the yard to secure it. There are neighborhoods notorious for people finding multiple trash bags of dead dogs with mouths taped over. If you can explain why this is other than those animals were bait animals please inform me. I can't imagine it would be otherwise with young cockrel I am not saying they are useful for fighting but useful as BAIT.

BULL CRAP when it comes to chickens being used as bait!!! It is not done.

OK well I am not involved in cockfighting so don't know how they are trained, obviously you are the expert. Kudos.

TBH I just know what happens to dogs around here being involved with a few rescue organizations in the Valley. It is beyond sad. Additionally, I am not interested in starting a Forum spat with anyone, but would welcome additional input from you at any time Centrachid!

This year my wife and I have sponsored 7 dogs to send north, Mia the fighting pit was put down by the SPCA as having an unsuitable temperment and Diva a little Blue Healer stunted at birth by parvo made it under the fence and challenged the neighbors 90 pound pit and their German Shepherd and got herself killed. The other 5 all made the journey north to Illinois to be rehomed there. I know that isn't chicken related in the least but coming from north texas and down to this region of the country nothing would surprise me when it comes to animal neglect or abuse so I assume the worst in people.

On a more positive note I found a taker for two of my Roos the neighbor two doors down really likes their look at 3.5 months and was surprised I am actually giving them away for free. So he will be picking 2 out of the 7 I have in about 2 hours. :woot

Discussion needs to be limited to chickens on this. Accuracy is important as well, especially when accusations of animal cruelty are leveled.
Well thank you for the education, by the way are you familiar with how fighting cocks are trained? I am just curious how they do it. I can't imagine that you simply knife up your inexperienced bird and set it in the ring. There has to be more to it than that, and true, I was operating under the ASSUMPTION it was similar to how they train dogs.
