I'm fixing to move the chicks from the brooder to the coop this week.I was going to keep them in the the coop for a week or so before leting them in the run.How long should I keep food and water in the coop at night? they are 5 weeks old now.Thanks.

24/7 until they are about 6 months old. Then I transition them to kitchen scraps in the morning and layer rations later in the day along with the rest of the hens.

From day 1 to 5 weeks I use the long red feeders with chick starter, at 6-16 weeks I use a 12 pound automatic feeder for every 50 chicks or so with chick starter, then start mixing in layer crumbles at 16-18 weeks old, then they get layer pellets in 30 lb auto feeders from then on out.

I also use automatic waterers too.

Just wondering?... Why would you not have food and water available 24/7?

If you have the lights on 24/7 they need to have food and water at all times! Automatic feeders are the way to go! Hang them from the ceiling to prevent mice/rats!
