I feed only in the coops...this way there are less rodents and wild birds attracted. Here it is cold all winter, so I have a waterer with de-icer in the house and another outside when the weather is warm and they will be drinking more.
I put the water in the run and the food in the coop. I don't want the water getting the bedding wet and it doesn't matter if it rains on the water. My run isn't covered, so I don't put the food out there or it'll get ruined if it rains. I usually dump treats and kitchen scraps in the run, but those never last more than a few minutes.
I keep mine in the coop, for a few reasons, keeps bugs, birds etc out. Also water stays colder longer in the coop during warm days, doesnt freeze as fast during colder days, stays clean inside coop etc.
The hen house is large enough to stand in and turn around along with the 5 gallon metal hanging feeder. The 5 gallon waterer is outside in the run/yard. Everyone is out by 8am each day and I also have a bowl of water in the barn aisleway that they seem to prefer but they will come and go all day from the run. The ladiies always go back in to lay and sit a spell.
