Food Budget Help!

That was really nice that you fixed her breakfast.

She liked your momma's biscuits...does she like any other things your mom makes?

I'm curious about what she didn't like about the eggs.

The eggs were "too cooked" but were so runny they got all over the plate. She likes hers sunny side up and I like mine over and hard or just boiled.

Oh goodness,that breakfast sounds heavenly.

Can she cook at all? If she cooked and didn't like it she couldn't gripe at you.

If she does physical therapy maybe she has a lot of pain and doesn't fill like cooking. When I was married my husband did a lot of the cooking and I was ever so grateful.

I read up to page 5 and had some wine. Possibly more going on here then a food budget.

Anyhow the cheapest food is in bulk, don't pay for all the packaging. Get rice, beans, noodles and flour if you want to make bread. Bread cost so much and very cheap to make.

When you go to a grocery store all the items you need are on the walls of the store or the outside edge. Produce, meat, dairy. The high dollar items are on the center isles and extravagant items.

Coupons combined with sale price stock up!

You have gotten a ton of good suggestions on saving.

My suggestion is sit down with her and talk about that is really bugging her about food. Seems like there is something deeper that is at the root of the issue. She might really miss her moms cooking. Having her get her moms recipes might help. Also having her participate more will help too.

And last, pick one day of the week (pick together) and call that dinner out night. The rest of the week is make it at home. There are some great recipe/meal planner websites out there. If you know that eating out is not an option and you have to make it, it may help to be less dramatic (crying in bed) when you have set that as your plan.

the taste of home has some really good and cheap to make recipes. they have both aq magazine and online. my dh hated my cooking until I started using these. I get the magazine and on the cover is a sticker with the page number and name of recipes that everyone likes.

What did she say about the eggs?
edited to add: You two really need to sit down and TALK. You need to listen and if you do not understand what she means by something, ask questions. You also need to tell her how you feel when you cook for her and she ignores it or cries.

Wow we spend about 8.60 per person per day on groceries that doesnt include the 5.00 my son takes for lunch at school everyday or the 2 bucks each hubby and I spend on coffee, and I thought we were doing good and I cook every single night, cant remember last time we ate out. I could never stretch a whole chicken over 5 meals, 3 would be tops. I dont know how anyone could do it on 3.00 a day

I don't see how either. My son and two daughters take $2 each a day for their extra lunches at school (the school doesn't feed them enough to fill them up), my husband spends about $6-8 a day, and I don't eat during the day so I spend nothing. Then the kids have to have meals after school and I cook supper almost every night.

When I bake chicken, I bake 2 chickens and usually have about a half of chicken left over, but I am also feeding 6 people and 3 of them are big eaters. The cost of food is outrageous now. I use to be able to buy everything I needed for the month for about $800, I can't do it anymore with the cost increases.

WOW, I barely make over your food budget a month. The woman can't work so that is why my budget is only 200, and its stretching it at that.
