Food Budget Help!

Quote:
I don't see how either. My son and two daughters take $2 each a day for their extra lunches at school (the school doesn't feed them enough to fill them up), my husband spends about $6-8 a day, and I don't eat during the day so I spend nothing. Then the kids have to have meals after school and I cook supper almost every night.

When I bake chicken, I bake 2 chickens and usually have about a half of chicken left over, but I am also feeding 6 people and 3 of them are big eaters. The cost of food is outrageous now. I use to be able to buy everything I needed for the month for about $800, I can't do it anymore with the cost increases.

WOW, I barely make over your food budget a month. The woman can't work so that is why my budget is only 200, and its stretching it at that.

Have you tried to apply for food stamps? Not sure what the income guideline on 2 people is, but it might be worth a shot. We make too much for food stamps, but not enough to survive. My school loans is what keeps our household going right now. I am going to be $70,000 + in debt by the time I graduate, just because our household couldn't survive without the loans. My husband and I were self employed for several years, until the economy dropped. We grossed over $500,000 per year and he found a job making $9 per hour. After two years he is up to $17 per hour. It was rough, but we made it. We stopped eating out, we eat much smaller meals, with usually only 2 items. When you love someone, you make things work

My dad had the gall to say "You must love him", I said why do you say that? He said, "We'll, for richer or poorer". Didn't think much of my dad after that. My dad wanted me to leave my husband for another man that made the money my husband use to make. I'll eat rice and beans for the rest of my life before that happens.

None of my business why she can't work, but has she applied for disability? Anything that might help you out? If your not married, she would qualify for food stamps, that would help out, since she isn't able to work.
You sound like a wonderful man (any man that will cook all the meals is A-OKAY, in my book) I would definitely set her down and ask her what is going on, if there is anything you can do.

Hello..reading through you have gotten some great wonderfull suggestions...I hope you are feeling a bit better about your situation...

look at it as an oportunity to grow and learn...
Frugal...can be a choice and a way of life...You don't have to live by societys..Have to buy comercialism....Embrace the concept of making it...

Learn how to can...(u tube can be a wonderful resource of ideas and ways...)once you get into it...it really isn;t that difficult...and incredibly rewarding...

know where your comunty bargin bins..are...buy all that you can possibly afford...not just what you need this week...
I embrace a get by for the year phylosophy....a freezer is the first must...a vacum packager(don't buy rolls from the store...ebay I got tripple sized rolls for $10 each
or better yet other good thing you can do is get a mason jar seeler...that attached with the vacume packager..and then you can extend the shelf life...Mylar bags, with oxygen absorbers are another good thing,,
but back to more get by strategies...

SAVE SEEDS...nothing can be more rewarding than to reap a crop that you grew for free...use weeds, at the end of the year as compost fertilizer..over your bed or containers...
there is so much that is incredibly overpriced in our society...that you can actually surprisingly make...
and how can easily be found on line...

I was a stuggling single mom...and even though I am better off now...I still very much follow frugal ways...
don't be too proud...sometimes...friends and family in the same way, can benifit, by pooling together...eg meal swap ect...

She was in a car accident with a state trooper. It is extremely hard to get disability in this state, she does not qualify.
