Just to clarify I am in my first year of chicken raising both layers and meaties. I am on my second round of meaties and I am currently brooding 25 "Freedom Rangers".
What I am noticing is that their food is getting caked in the roof of their mouths. I pulled a pretty big "plug" out of the mouth of one the other night, I was a bit disconcerted with the size. I never noticed this reaction with the Cornish X. I now check them twice a day to remove any build up that has started.
Only thing I am doing differently, other than breed, is feeding them food that is being mixed locally. It does seem that the consistency of it is pretty fine. They have constant supply water.
Any thoughts?
