Food grade is what you'd use if you used it, but I've never used the red stuff, only the off white stuff. What I use it for is just to put a little in a new feed bag, maybe a half cup or less in 50# and stir it around, to be sure there is nothing in there to hatch if weevil eggs are present or to soak up moisture if moisture gets in. You can use it or not use it. Never expect it to worm a chicken. I dolightly sprinkle it under the roosts on rare occasion during times of very wet weather when shavings soak up moisture from the air, maybe in a nest box, but I never use it any other way. I have kept some around for 16+ years, but as the years pass, have used it less and less.

Thank you for your help. I am looking for the white kind that I have seen people using on YouTube. The kind that is mixed in the dust bath to help kill mites and parasites. I have read that it is also used in very small amounts in their feed for worming. My chicks are now 3 weeks old. Taking them out for an hour or so each day to get some acclamation, otherwise, they are in a brooder in my house…I only have 4.

Food grade isn't any better. D e itself is not very good for anything.
There is no point in feeding it to a bird it does absolutely nothing.
It can only kill bugs if it is 100% dry.
Just to being outdoors where there's humidity makes the stuff not dry.

Thank you misunderstood when I said throw it away I meant throw it away because it is absolutely useless.

I used to mix the food grade into my feed as well. I have video of a huge grain mite population explosion in the feed bin with all the DE.

It's truly useless.
