Food in nose (silkie)

Just had the vet out to remove food wedged in my silkie hen's nose. We're not sure how to prevent this, very weird. There was a bunch of stuff in there, and waaay up in there, gross. Anyone have this happen? Apparently, it's the shape of their nostrils, we're guessing, as they are narrower than regular chicken noses. Vet never saw anything like that.

How did the vet remove all the food from her nose? I have a hen that has food stuck in her nose as well but I'm not quite sure how to remove it...
