Food questions

[Mt. Baker Quail]

Is this food too big for my 6 month-old coturnix, and is it the right food for them? It is Turkey/Gamebird Developer & Finisher 19% protein.

Seriously too large for any bird within the quail group!!!​

I've fed pellets to quail for years..ever seen a half grown wild bobwhite with its crop full of whole kernel corn?

Nope, don't feed corn......but have seen a feeder with gamebird feed, corn mash, and whole corn kernels (mixed) in a feeder (not mine), and the whole kernels were left to stare at..........

I can get a 28% protein which is a smaller crumble, but would it make the coturnix fat?

That is what they need. What brand? I am guessing Southern States?

No. You WANT a high protein percentage for quail. Besides, protein is not the macronutrient that makes anything fat. That special status belongs to carbohydrates.
