Food Sovereignty

And if someone didn't want to have any inspections then could they still sell their stuff ?
Hemet I am with you on your concern. I agree this could be dangerous.

I have to wonder, though, what if this is allowed but the people selling their product is required to declare that they have not been inspected, and that they are required that customers should be allowed to see the facilities the products were raised and processed in?
Perhaps set up a graduated system? Different grades of inspection in which the producer must declare on their food such as " inspected" with the name of the inspector signed off, and the group the inspector came from such as FDA or an independent inspection group and what was inspected and what it was inspected for. Or "uninspected" But they must list what preventative actions such as vaccines were taken.

This would put the power of choice into the farmer and consumer's hands, but would have a system available for people who want to show that their food has been inspected and graded.

I think there is a middle ground here. Personally, I would not drink unpasteurized milk but that doesn't mean I support the laws saying that you can't produce or purchase it. I do think there need to be warnings so the potential consumer of the unpasteurized milk is aware of the risks in consuming it and therefore cannot sue if they get sick from it.

At the end of that day it doesn't matter what laws the city, county or state pass because they are still subject to the federal laws.

There's a difference between producing your own food and -selling- it.

If I were to eat it, I would take good care of it being ok to eat. Let's face it, the moment someone is in it for profit, that consideration can go out the window in return for some money.

They should draw a line riiight in the middle.

I have gotten food poisoning more than once from "supermarket food". There are food recalls everyday. Spent 3 days in the hospital from a tube of ground beef. (lets just say it is one of those things I will never buy again)

If I could buy from a farmer who is eating the same thing he is selling me and gave me a "nickel" tour of his farm and practices, I would have no problems eating it. After all how many people here eat their own livestock and you don't get that goverment inspected before you put it in your freezer.

Big Meat Companys scare me. Google "Reclaimed Meat" and see it you keep your lunch.

And I have never gotten food poisoning from a supermarket or even off a lunch truck and I'm sure I have eaten reclaimed meat sometimes called pink slime.
If you get sick off your own raised meat you know who to blame. People can buy good meat and not cook it right and get sick. Is that the fault of the person that raised the meat ?

Almost 72, and I have never gotten food poisoning from food cooked by myself, wife, family or friends. My wife did get food poisoning on a trip to Barbados - understandable, I guess. Prepare and store food properly and limit the possibility of problems.

I've always believe that people should be allowed to do on their own premises whatever they please, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. This kinda falls under that.
