Please don't take this the wrong way, as I am not trying to be rude or fresh. But What universe are you living in that a college degree magically gets you a job? I have a bachelors degree, and an advanced professional certification, and five years experience. This past year ,(with my younger child in first grade) I have applied for many positions. MANY positions. I also have a kick-*** resume, and write really thoughtful cover letters.
And I have only gotten one call back! (Interview next week)

So please, a college degree is not a magic wand. Yes, I a very happy that I have one (a college degree, not a magic wand) but in this economy especially it guarentees nothing

Rant over.

You misread what I wrote - and "what universe are you living in" yeah..I do find that a bit rude, sorry, dont know how else I should take that. I never said a college degree was an automatic "IN" for a job... I said normally when you have a degree they do not require 2 years experience in the field as a prerequisite in a postion that you've got your degree in.

Never did I say "because you have a degree you have automatically get the job"

Also - you're right - nothing means much in this economy..... including my husbands job which he will be out of in the next 2 months...so.... yes.. I DO know how it is.

I do believe that this is the message I was trying to get across. The other thing is this - if you are in position where you find yourself unable to feed or take care of yourself yet you have animals, maybe it's time to consider re-homing your animals. Animals need more then food and love. They also need vet care from time to time.

There goes that ugly monster rearing its head again.....only people with money should get to have animals. Heck, if that were the case the only chickens would be found in cities. Yes, poor folks have animals and we mostly doctor them at home.

Yes, we can provide for them and keep them comfy or we can give them the hand of mercy with a quick death. We poor folks raise the animals as a food source, not as a petting zoo like the elite "I can afford to vet my chickens" set.

I applaud anyone who is on public assistance, due to unfortunate circumstances, who still has the get up and go to keep a supplementary food source and even, gasp!, sell those animals and eggs for extra money. Its called survival.

I'm so pleased that so many find themselves able to have enough money to be entitled to own animals. Reality check..... just because someone is on assistance doesn't mean they cannot feed or provide for themselves....it just means they need a little help for awhile. Doesn't mean they are incapable of doing so. Until you have been in need, please do not judge those who haven't had the opportunities that you have enjoyed.

Also chickens provide entertainment, meat and eggs as a source of protein that the food pantries or food stamps can not provide.

to the OP.... you are the reason's I keep working and paying taxes. Please continue trying to get the aid you need for your temporary downfall. This day too shall pass. I am aware that 9 out of 10 on welfare are scamming in some way, but if it keeps one child from starving, then I guess I have to pay that price.

If you were closer, I'd help you personally. I've been there! Good luck

You work, so go for it. I have no problems with people who TRY having these . . .you need help, and that is what they are for. You don't plan on this for long term, so get in there and get what you can to help you out. If you don't you will just dig yourself in deeper and take longer to recover. Good Luck!!!!

**I think the OP has received plenty of helpful advice here. So before this topic gets totally out of control and is turned into an argument, this thread is closed.

I wish the OP lots of luck and hope things get better soon.
