I do believe that this is the message I was trying to get across. The other thing is this - if you are in position where you find yourself unable to feed or take care of yourself yet you have animals, maybe it's time to consider re-homing your animals. Animals need more then food and love. They also need vet care from time to time.
There goes that ugly monster rearing its head again.....only people with money should get to have animals. Heck, if that were the case the only chickens would be found in cities. Yes, poor folks have animals and we mostly doctor them at home.
Yes, we can provide for them and keep them comfy or we can give them the hand of mercy with a quick death. We poor folks raise the animals as a food source, not as a petting zoo like the elite "I can afford to vet my chickens" set.
I applaud anyone who is on public assistance, due to unfortunate circumstances, who still has the get up and go to keep a supplementary food source and even, gasp!, sell those animals and eggs for extra money. Its called survival.
I'm so pleased that so many find themselves able to have enough money to be entitled to own animals. Reality check..... just because someone is on assistance doesn't mean they cannot feed or provide for themselves....it just means they need a little help for awhile. Doesn't mean they are incapable of doing so. Until you have been in need, please do not judge those who haven't had the opportunities that you have enjoyed.
