I use McCormick marinades. "Mesquite" is my (and my girlfriend's) favorite. Marinate a couple of (bone in) rib steaks, overnight and grill them till they are medium rare (about five minutes on a side, over propane... 7-8 minutes on a side, for charcoal). It turns an already good cut of meat into steaks you could cut with a fork. It's best if, when you flip the steak, the oils, on top drip off and catch fire. It's the flame that makes the meat *really* great.
Corn on the cob and some lightly steamed asparagus and broccoli (with a squeeze of lemon and the tiniest pinch of salt) finishes out the meal.
The best food, I like, is pan-seared, rare, ahi tuna. It's expensive but I can eat it for breakfast, the next morning!
It sounds like your man is not picky. Also, it's possible he is just too tired of making decisions. I know, for me, I feel so loved, when I come home from work and dinner is almost ready. It's such a relief, to not have to make that decision and my woman is simply taking care of me. Those nights, even casserole about brings tears to my eyes. Quiet is really great too. Look on iTunes for a genre of music called "cool jazz". Some of that music might as well be labelled "dinner music", but it's better for dates.
