We plan to make a large DIY feeder and some type of PVC water delivery system in our run, but do the hens need a food/water supply inside the coop as well? If so, what works well in the smaller space of the coop? We have seven chickens who will be graduating to coop/ run in a couple weeks.

My hens go into the coop to sleep. They don't wake up during the night to eat as they have very poor night vision. My food and water is kept outside even in the winter. They love being outside in the run no matter what the weather. As long as the birds can get outside at a decent hour having food and water only in the run won't be an issue.

Okay, thank you. Ours will only be in the coop to sleep as well.

I keep my feeder inside the coop (to protect from the weather) and water outside (in case there's any leaks, it'll just get the ground soggy. I do also feed fermented feed, but that's outside, as it's wet. Long story short, do what works for you and your set up. But chickens don't need to eat at night :) (though they will if the lights stay on).
