Foot problems?

I read in a book that I bought from Amazon that quails can develop problems in their feet if they stay on the grass. I am not quite sure why quails would have problems with their feet if they stay on the grass and the book does it say what kind of problems. Does anyone have experience with this?

I know birds are more prone to parasites and disease on the ground, so infection might be an issue. You'd think they would have more foot issues spending their lives on wire. :idunno

As with any "blanket statement" you have to consider the source. I raise quail on both ground and wire. I don't find any problems with either way. The chances of quail getting bumble foot is greater on wire than on the ground. Other than worms, which isn't a foot problem and can also be found in caged birds, I think birds raised on the ground are happier than those in a wire cage.
