For all the home made incubators, how control temperature.

my one goes from 90 to 150F. It has been in the bater now for a few days and it is ROCK SOLID STABLE at 99.5 in the inside of the water weasel measured with a medical quality thermometer.

yeppers that link i sent you is definitely the same one I bought. It works beautifully...just order it online from the lowes website if you cant find it locally. There may be them even cheaper on ebay i didnt check.

hey i have the same thermostat but if i set mine to turn off at 101* it doesnt turn back on until the temp goes all the way back down to 93* how does yours stay so constant?

I have the same thermostat.

The air temp in mine swings like that too.

What I am measuring and keeping constant is the temp in the water wiggler. The thermometer/hydrometer I have has a little probe that I threaded into the middle. If it is maintaining the 99.5F temperature then the eggs should be at the same temperature at their core. I am not so worried about the flunctuation of the air temp because even hens get up and leave the nest for a bit and the eggs surely cool down then as well.

im with miss prissy...the core temp of the water wiggler is what is staying constant not the temp overall in the bator...it takes AGES for the core temp to change even when the ambient temp is fluctuating.

Looking for detailed how to build an incubator... im trying to copy a sportsman/dickey cabinet type I read this sight several times and find info then go to the site links and loose my plan again.... i know i can get the guts from culters i just not sure all of what i need... the inside of the cabinet i would like to glue plastic paneling onto heavy plywood and everything inside either made of metal or plastic for easy cleaning can anyone guide me to the planns i need thanks

The following is just my option regarding a small scale home made incubator. I'm 14 hatched out of 24 duds\\failures and I am currently working on my next 24 batch.

I've tried both a water heater thermostat and a wafer thermostat.. and while i am more of a fan of the wafer, I think the most important element is the heat sync(s). I found one of those old coolers with the flat "water bottle" you could freeze and attach to the lid.. well, that's the bottom of my home made incubator. As long at the overall average of the air is 99/100 range, the water syncs will (if properly placed) make of for a lot. Having the fan blowing over this allows for the temp to immediately returned to normal after opening the lid for turning the eggs.
