For our bike-ridin', chicken-lovin' friends (grab the tissue box)

Thanks for posting that Dawn. I'm not a biker, but I know many people who are, including my brothers. A good friend of mine is a biker and he's coming over Saturday to help me build my chicken coop. I'm printing that poem for him. I know he'll appreciate it.

Oh man, I have gotten that poem by email before, makes me cry like a baby every time. I personally do not ride-am actually scared to death of being on something that doesn't have a "frame" around me....

My mother and her boyfriend have a nice bike though. The warm weather always gets me to worrying, always wondering if I'm going to see her again.

I also go out of my way to ALWAYS watch for bikes. And if I see one far enough back, behind me on the interstate, I will keep an eye on it in my mirror, until it is safely around/past me. Again, summer up here-watching out is such a necessity, especially around July/August, as bikes are traveling through to get to Sturgis.

The stereotypes make me so angry, too; my mom and Dan are always doing poker runs for the Make a Wish foundation, local humane society, Childrens Care Hosital (for special needs kids) of which my own son attends. They would bend over backwards to help someone out.

It does bother me, that they will not wear their helmets....always have them with them, and say they mean to, but...

I had a friend die from brain trauma, after taking a spill off his dirt bike-the year we graduated high school. He had wore his helmet all day, got off the bike to take a pee break, and didn't put his helmet back on to finish riding...

There are no helmet laws in SC. Every time I go home I see all these idiot riding with no shoes, no shirts, cut off jean shorts and no helmet. They are a bad wreck waiting to happen.

That poem is so true (unfortunately). No one does see the person on the bike or if they do they feel that they are scary or bad. My DH and I don't have the tattoos or the long hair, but we do ride and we love to ride with our friends even with their long hair and tattoos. We do the Toys for Tots ride in Maine each summer which gives toys to needy families over the holidays. It is a great ways for the biking community to raise awareness of those less fortunate.

Chickaroo! :

That was a great post! I've gotta send that to my MIL!! She has rode a bike ever since she graduated from high school. She belongs to a women's motorcycle club called: "Motor Maids". Anyone on here a member or heard of it? They are a super nice bunch of people and go to alot of functions and do rides together. Alot of the times, DH's go along and it's always a fun time.

Every year in Gatlinburg and Knoxville, there are big bike rallies and of course in Fl, where I lived before moving here. I am sure i have seen leathers with Motor Maids on them , just can't remember which, but I think here, in TN....

I'm so glad y'all have enjoyed it and to see so many that are passing it along.

Wasn't sure if I was going to post it but after spending the afternoon in tears from first reading it, decided that I should.

I will reply back to everyone as soon as I can, we have storms moving in and the rumbles are getting closer so I need to get off-line for now but will be back as soon as I can!

Apparently the Screaming Eagle package she's packin' wasn't loud enough.

We both feel very lucky to have survived it. The eye witness had a cell phone and told 911 what had transpired and that "he was pretty sure he was looking at 2 dead bodies in the road". shivers We're glad there was no traffic or it could have been a true statement.

We're glad to be here, too! I'm so amazed at how judgemental can be "just because". Alot of the clubs here do some wonderful things for some wonderful causes: Toys for Tots, Relay for Life, etc. I always wonder just what good cause those who give us those "sideway glances" have helped lately. We've both lost friends to wrecks also.

I grew up doin' the dirtbikes thanks to the neighhood boys and loved it as I've always been a tomboy. Since I've gotten older, there's just something about the rumble of a Harley that makes me go weak in the knees!

My 85 year old grandmother has defended many of my biker friends to other family members as she has met them and anytime she needed help, they were right there for her. She actually went ballistic on an aunt (through marriage) one day and I was speechless, so when the aunt when Granny got done with her!

I feel like such a wimp for whining about being stuck in the hospital for 2 days after what you've been through. It never ceases to amaze me how little people care and drunk drivers seem to be the worst. My ex husband is an alcoholic and he always terrified me by getting too close to people on bikes and he even has biker friends, I never understood that!

You are so Welcome!

This was my first "real" wreck and totalling the Lexus at 30 mph was bad enough. The last thing I remember was a flash of color in front of us, then being able to see OVER Skip's helmet (he's just over 6' tall, I'm 5' 2") and knowing that it wasn't right. I don't remember hitting the road at all and didn't even realize that my wrist was broken at the time.

Time for dinner so I'll be back in a bit to reply some more!

Dawn

Hey Dawn, Skip said you called me on being a Lefty. I have always heard when you fall you put out the hand you do not use to write with, so I quess thats about right then.

That is so true..........most people never see a motorcycle. You have to be on the defensive at all times. Dawn, Glad to see you and Skip made it thru your accident. If you are ever up towards Gatlinburg, look me up and we'll cruise the mountains. I have a '03 V-Rod and my wife has an '06 1200 Sportster. Happy Ridin'
