For our bike-ridin', chicken-lovin' friends (grab the tissue box)

It is amazing how much respect my husband gets when he is in uniform and ho little he receives when he wears faded jeans and a Harley shirt. You cant judge a person by the vehicle they ride/drive.
Bikers save gas!!!!They get better gas mileage than any car. Cant beat 40mpg city and up tp 50mpg highway

hey kingscalls,

we'd love to get together and ride with y'all! when we get the sporty rebuilt we're thinking about having it lowered for dawn to ride, i've got my eye on a roadking. it would be a bit more comfortable on longer rides.

moonwalker,

i'm sure that there's a chapter of the maids here in tn i've seen them listed in "thunder roads" magazine. it looks like your in the same neck of the woods as kingscalls, we should all get together and ride some time. we arent harley snobs, we ride with several friends that have metrics. to us it's all about putting our knees in the breeze.

cheers,

doc

...And I don't have anything against Harleys....except...I've never found one that really fits me. One of these days I will and THEN I'll be willing to pay the price, but until I do I'll have fun with the rice burners!

My goodness, Dawn, how did I miss this when you posted it?? so sorry and so glad you two are ok.
In Sept. '05 we got my dh a '06 Harley Heritage Softail. I do not like them...bikes in particular as I am a worry wort. but I figure he is a grown man and has worked all his life and deserves to have something he has always dreamed about...thus it was his birthday present! Yes, I did gain lots of points on that one.

I ride with him sometimes but only very short distances. I am afraid of the bike and I know my fear is what will cause an accident. One of our daughters bought her dh a Harley the month after we did for her dh's b/d, too.
My dh always wears a helmet and is extremely careful but we all know people do not see bikes and that is my biggest fear. But it won't make me stop him from having the time of his life.

God Bless All Riders no matter what the make of the bike!!

I "think" I would like to learn how to ride, myself, but I really enjoy being the passenger.

Friends of ours have a gorgeous Road King for sale that Skip is really interested in so he's been excited about the possibility of lowering the Sporty for me. I'm excited about it one minute, then against it the next.

We're waiting on our settlement before we put the Sporty in the shop and figure that by the time she's finally ready for the road again, everyone will have put their bikes up due to cold weather and we'll be riding by ourselves again.

I've got the itch bad to get on the back of a friends bike and get my first ride (after the wreck) over with but can't make myself do it so I'll patiently wait for Skip and the Sporty. I feel like since the 3 of us went down together, it's only right for the 3 of us to get back on the road together.

Dawn

We were driving down the interstate on Sunday, and were passed by two guys on Ninjas :)rolleyes) No sooner did they go by, and the moron in the back lifted up and started doing a wheelie...I looked at my husband and said, "Just watch, he's going to lose it..." Sure enough, he got too high up, went off, and started rolling....My husband is braking (had already started braking, as he had a bad feeling too) I'm reaching for my cell phone...and the guy gets up (!) and starts running after his bike! We were doing at least 65 mph, so I know he was going faster. I couldn't believe it. We stopped, but had a whole lot of traffic piling up, and there were several others that stopped, so we ended up going on our way. I still can't believe we witnessed that, even now when I think about it.

I feel good in a way though, of how I think I would have handled it; I had always imagined coming upon something like that, and not being able to handle seeing bad injuries...I was calm (yet totally shocked it was happening) was going to dial 911 and then see what we could do to help.

It's amazing to me how many people don't realize how many "respectable business types" go out riding their Harley Davidsons on the weekends, and have those tatooes, just cant see them under the 3 piece suit.

Thanks for sharing that poem, and glad to hear that you're ok and recovering well.
