For the shelter ppl.. what to do with an animal you can't keep?

Thanks. I really did feel like we had done the best we could for them. The whole "ownership" thing is quite interesting, as I've wondered the same thing. If we "own" strays that we feed, certainly it wouldn't be better to just let them starve. Really, I don't care if I "own" them or not. Or what the shelter ppl think of me (I understand they get liars all the time). There was just such harshness expressed toward those who surrender animals, I wondered if there was something better I should have done. I didn't think of a rescue for them, but I prolly could have found at least a pit rescue for Isabel. I will keep that in mind for future reference. I've not found a dump dog for quite some time though. There was, last year a mama hound and her babies, but I *think* they may have belonged to the farm next to the dump. Every time I tried to get near them, they ran through the fence into the pasture (there is cow pasture on either side of the dump).

We picked up our most recent dog at the dump. We went there, were tossing the bags from the mini van into the dumpster and this ugly stinky lil dog jumped in the van like we were late to pick him up. All "hi there, you're late, let's go!" It's very rare after all these years in rescue, shelter and foster work that one stays.

But it took him just about 16 hours to get Laura too say, oh well, he doesn't eat much... Sure sign that one of us has caved in.

He's one weird sweet homely little fella. He's french bull dog and chihuahua. Laura calls him a Bull Taco but I just think he's a Bullchi*. You should see these ears. On the other hand like most free dogs, he is one of the most expensive ever, heartworm, kennel cough, neutering and microchip - ouch.

Shelter workers burn out. Her attitude wasn't actually at you. Just at THINGS as they stand. If she'd just killed two dozen cats, dogs, pups or kittens, she was probably feeling really cranky. And that happens every single day in most counties in most states.

Not your fault, and not hers. Really and truly if you aren't ticked off by what's happening to previously owned pets in america, you aren't paying attention.

Too many people still treat them like profitable throw away items.
