Yes, the hatcheries are being dishonest, they do not sell ameraucana. This thread was started to help people not get duped or misled(whether on purpose or not). Please don't try to start conflict on it.
eta- easter egger is any chicken that lays a non-traditional colored egg(tinted blue, green, pink), they are mutts. Just as in dogs, they make wonderful pets

I think you and probably other people use that definition for Easter Eggers in order to defend your birds . There are those of us however that have a different definition. Mine for example would be.... an Easter Egger is a mixed breed chicken, that lays colored eggs.
If your definition of a snob is somone that is knowledgeable about what they have a vested interest in then ......OK, Im a snob.
BTW people that own Cockapoos, Pugles, and Labradoodles, ect... belive that those are pure bred dogs too.
I agree so much w/ peachick. "Designer" dogs are mutts and the same rules apply to chickens. I have been working on getting eggs from several of the Ameraucana folks on this site. They have been informative and helpful with all of my novice questions and I can't wait until the eggs come. I know I won't be disappointed.
Oh yea, also when buying Ameraucanas besides checking the muff, beard, tail, specific color, and blue eggs.....Don't forget to take a looksy and see if they have slate legs.
If they have green, yellow or any other color then they are an Easter Egger.
I like to see the egg color before ordering hatching eggs and as stated by others ask where the breeding lines came from.
I have EE & Ameraucanas and love, love, Looove them both. Both of mine are very sweet & social. They are awesome pets!!!!
