For those of you out there that hate King snakes (black snakes)

problem is a lot of people do not know what they are talking about a black rat snake would never eat another snake specially not 1 w venom

and florida and cali king snakes both are big time snake eaters i can[t believe the man here says they are not LOL he should not be saying such false things to people because then they are going to think most king snakes they see are not snake eaters which is NOT true

milk snakes and smaller species of kings might not be but all sub species of the common king are big time snake eaters they are opportunistic but probably would rather eat a snake then a rat more food for them and a more easy fit goes down more smooth plus they good at killing other snakes
?
they are not specialist snake killers though like the south american MUSSIE or the king cobra which refuse to eat anything but snakes

people just need to know which snakes can save their life and protect their houses (King snakes, Indigos) and which snakes are just a pain in the ass (rat snakes) I do not want rat snakes or pine snakes around my house who needs them ? If u have a rodent problem the cats will take care of it.

coach whips and racers both will sometomes prey on snakes as well

Also for those of you quick on the shovel it is a federal crime to harm some species. Snake or not we do have some endangered species and threatened species that need to be protected. It takes a very shallow and blind person to say there is no need for them at all they're all better off gone - all due to not being fuzzy and cute.

If George is indeed a Black Rat Snake(and they don't eat other snakes)maybe I need to tell him that...lol. I have to say that snakes in the wild are very fascinating to watch. That's how I found out that it was a George and the other two he's been with are females. I went to move a fiberglass panel last year and there was George and both of the females all intertwined with each other under it. They didn't even pay me any mind. Very interesting thread!!!

ifu really saw george eating a snake how did he kill the snake? it would tell u what kind of snake he is

i think george is a racer or a coach whip hes to thin to be indigo which has a massive girth

I don't know how he killed it. When I saw him he had about 6" left to swallow. I went in the house to get the camera and he had finished it when I got back outside. BTW, this wasn't the first one that I've seen him eating. Keep in mind that the snakes I've seen him eating are very small Copperheads around 12"-15" long.

I don't know anything about snakes but we had a red racer living on our roof in New Mexico. It was a straw bale home, built into the ground with sod on the roof. The snake would hang over the pathway leading to the studio. All 15 feet of him. Ok, maybe I exaggerate, but when you looked up and he was hanging over the path

I didn't use that path anymore. We left him alone though, I think he ate mice etc??

I hate those copperheads! Living in woods in NC across the street from a lake, I'd rather see any snake but those. One bit my sister's dog once, and there wasn't much they could do but keep in on fluids and watch her. With kids I worry about venomous snakes! Other snakes don't bother me. We have a ball python, Drago, as a pet, and my boys (OK, me too) love him. We just have the coop and run closed up really tight with fine 1/2 in hardware cloth on all sides, 1/4 in completely enveloping the bottom beneath the substrate, a real roof, and locks on the doors and hatches. Those raccoons are pretty crafty with latches!
