For those of you who ship eggs--PO trouble??

Sounds like she was just clueless. You taught her something today!

(I'm guessing you won't be able to get chicks and started birds in your zip code, though so something to remember in the future.)

They're allowed to receive in live critters--that's the same PO where my chick order was delivered last year. They're just not allowed to ship live things out.

I'm guessing its because we're too far away from a major airport--but that doesn't really make sense because we can receive!

I've never had a problem, I ship eggs out. My post master loves to see me walking in with hatching eggs and asks questions all the time.

I don't mark the box as eggs, only that it's fragile and not to crush or freeze the box. They know what it is, most of the time, but have never given me any troubles. I live in a small town and I can get live chicks in, but they won't accept lives. I have to drive 2.5-3 hours to get to the PO in Anchorage that's at the airport to do it. Right now it's not worth the hassle, especially in the winter.

I don't know if it's just my imagination, but the boxes I receive marked "eggs/fragile!" are abused a whole lot more than the unmarked boxes...

Just my observation...

At one post office I had no trouble at all. While out running errands on a weekend when our town PO is not even open the large city PO told me I could not ship eggs because they might hatch in the box. LOL I had to explain there was no way they would hatch in the box during transport and then they let me ship them. The person I sent them to got them on Monday

safe and sound.

Hatching in the box! That's priceless!

There sure are a lot of misconceptions about hatching eggs out there!
I know people have told me that they'll only eat store bought eggs because they're so afraid of fresh eggs having 1/2 grown chicks in them.

She probably got confused because it said "hatching eggs" on the box.

I really hope that was not the case. Dont they have to take civil service exams or something? That cracked me up though. Good one.
