How do you keep them from developing? I understand keeping them out on the counter is OK if you use them. But what about those you sell. I mean if you have alot of eggs and they are fertile will they not start to develope if left on the counter? Does putting them in the frig even for a day stop any developing from happening?

Well if room temp is close to incubator they would then develope. This is what I mean how to halt development so it will not start so that those that have them on counter do not get eggs that start developing. Many here do not use AC so temps in home come close if not higher sometimes than incubator temps. Is there a way to insure that they eggs will not develope besides not having a rooster?

fridge? basement? I would think anywhere below 95 degrees wouldn't get them developing. I dont AC my house and it gets plenty warm in So Cal. I leave my eggs out on the counter and have never found one developing yet this summer.

I've had eggs set on the counter in a warm room many times and haven't had one start developing yet. Not something I would spend time worrying about if I were you.

I place my eggs in a back room in the basement where it is around 60 degree's. I also tip them 2 times a day. So far my hatch rates have been really good.

so you are saying you keep them at 60 degrees and they are hatching chicks? sorry I am a little confused...
just argued with my sister on this issue who's husband insists that if the eggs are fertile they will have blood in them or start to develop right away ..... I could see this being an issue if the eggs aren't collected every day ... he also said most hens are protective of their eggs if they are fertile and there is a rooster present and we should get rid of or separate our rooster.....I said no sorry they do that rooster or not if they go broody....know it alls drive me crazy!!!!!
