I have started hatching chicks from some of my experimental crosses.

For those who don't want to do CX's...

If you could get local chicks that were a cross of say marans x Orp that grew to 5 lbs./ 3 dressed lbs. in 13 weeks would it be something you would be interested in? Also that means you could raise in small batches, butcher at your own pace, save freezer space?
 
I hatch my Delawares that dress out to 3 pounds +/- in 12 to 13 weeks too. Tender as butter and exquisite flavor! I'll be trying a cross with Partridge Rocks soon to see if there is any difference in growth rates.

yes that would be a nice alternative meat bird. If you couldn't hatch your own. Would you buy those chicks as meat birds? Obviously those looking for CX wouldn't but those who are looking for a slower healthier grower with a little bit more taste?
