For those who dream of owning a horse one day

I think that I would get a Hafinger. Oh wait, I have one!!

The Gypsy Vanners are nice, but be careful. They are growing in popularity. When that happens too many are bred by people out for a quick buck. Be watchful of people that breed any horse just for color. There are lots of other traits that are much more important than color, like temperment and health.

I think I dream of the day I DON'T own a horse anymore LOL!
I have a Thoroughbred that eats a ton of food and a welsh pony that stays fat on practically nothing....
I guess they balance each other out

If I had my choice I would just want some old fart been there done that Quarter Horse type build that I could pluck around on without taking my life in my hands....

The gal we got our horse from has a 35 year old quarter horse! It is the ultimate "old grey mare" - except it's a gelding!!

I LOVE the drafts and I've always loved the gypsy vanners. I'm a poor college student so I don't have the money for those...instead I went with a black and white paint! Not quite a draft, but the color is there!

I also love the friesians, andalusians, and some of the gaited breeds. I think TWHs are beautiful and I like rocky mountain horses too!

However, when it comes down to it, I think the paints take the cake for me. I use my horses for trail riding and farting around with training, so the paints suit that purpose perfectly. I can also do some speed events at the fun shows around here!

Exactly! I Have had my 22 year old appendix quater horse for 15 years. He was a retired quarter horse racer and has arthritis in the front legs.
He was a great trail horse for me so I will feed and take the best care of him until the day he passes on.

He is a pasture pet to the two "FREE" horses I have and ride because the owners could no longer afford to keep them. I would have more but then I would have to work more to pay for them and no time to ride.

Back to the post - These GV's are a lovely animal and I would REALLY like to have one some day!

I just saw some of the prices... wow $35,000 for a horse....

I better start saving them pennies! lol I could buy a house for that,

Wow, didn't expect so many responses so fast!

I've always loved horses and for many years have ogled over quite a few different breeds. When it comes down to the ones that I choose to ride though, I always go with personality. But there's just something about those Gypsies... maybe it's the artist/photographer in me. If we ever won the lottery, yes, I'd buy one (or two, or five!). I don't really know what exactly are all of the definitions of perfection in the breed, but I'd be looking for the ones with the most proportionate body to legs, the best shaped faces and bodies, and the ones with the fluffiest feet and longest manes/tails. Coloration would be considered pretty much last.
