My feed store orders from Cackle. I went in Feb. and wrote out what I wanted and paid for them. They were supposed to come about April 9. The feed store guy called me the day the chicks were to be shipped from the hatchery and said the hatchery had just told him that I could not get the breeds I wanted unless I got at least seven of each breed. No one had told him that in March when he placed the order. The only options were to take other breeds that he had ordered for the store, or to wait until early June to get them. I opted for the store chicks, but got all breeds that I didn't already have except for 2 more RIRs. He was very apologetic and really nice and had my chicks all set aside when I got there early in the AM.
I got my day old chicks April 21. He had them all out in a big garage area and it was COLD, about 45 deg. All the chicks (hundreds of them) were peeping loudly. I got them into a warm car and drove home as fast as I could. They quieted down as they warmed up. My chicks were healthy and are now 7 weeks and have done well. No losses or sickness, and they ARE new breeds to me, although not the ones I picked out originally.
So I guess I am satisfied.
