We are slated to get some chickens at work but the zoning for the area we are insaid we couldn't have them. We were trying to come up with areason why we should be allowed a zoning variance vola our flock is going to be a sentinel flock. We have to band 2 chickens and draw blood on them May thru sept and the county takes care of the paper work and all that. Guess they use them to monitor for west nile, avian influenza and what else don't know. But we are going to be able to have legal chickens that way:D Might be something to look into.

A sentinel flock is sort of like a canary in a coal mine.

If the bird dies something's wrong.
