I have 2 ISA Brown hens that are almost 3 years old. They did not go into molt last year 2017 and I'm having issues with shell less eggs.

Should I force them to go into molt to reset their system? I have never done it before. How do you force molt a hen?

I had 3 ISA Brown hens but one died from complications from laying shell less eggs. So that's why I'm thinking about force molting to prevent complications from shell less eggs.

I don't why they have not molted regularly. Are ISA Brown's less likely to molt?

At three years of age they have gone through 2 seasonal molts. Show a current picture of them. You need to learn how to notice the process. Open a wing so it looks like my avatar and take a picture of that as well. It would be nice to know if the cross does the slow wing feather replacement pattern which would have started back in May or do they molt in the fast pattern that will be starting very soon.

I would avoid doing the forced molt unless they are indoors where you can keep them relatively warm. The process is hard on them.

My shelless egg issue came more from a calcium issue than a molting issue. To resolve this i added more oyster shells and calcium supplement to the later feed. How ever i have heard that when their body is focusing on replacing feathers that egg production stops or slows because their body energy is focusing on making new feathers instead of producing eggs.

I have a few that just started a pretty heavy molt so i am trying to learn more about it as well.
Good luck!!
