Fort Waddles

I haven’t made any updates on the little babies in a while. They are very little anymore:

Jolene, my silver appleyard

Aspen, my fawn & white runner. Yeah, her bill is still a little messed up from whatever happened at the hatchery

I didn’t get to take a picture of my rouen. Though, I named her Zuzu.

I’m at work, but my mom messaged me to let me know they found Sassafras laying on his side dead. I think they got into the potato plants and ate the leaves

It was poor little Aspen, not Sassafras. Neither my mom or dad knows which duck is who and told me wrong.

Your time with me wasnt long enough, but I’ll miss you.

Eventually, there will be a new Fort Waddles since the current one wasn’t originally built for 8 ducks. I think we have some lumber laying around the farm, so we can at least get most of it started, but here is the coop design I’m going with

https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/the-eggcelsior.65197/

It’s already pretty well suited/designed for ducks, it just needs a few tweaks here and there.

So sorry for your loss of such a precious Little one.
As for the coop it's adorable. I wouldn't bother with the nest boxes though most ducks just prefer to lay in their bedding. And make sure you put in really good ventilation they need it summer and winter .

Thanks. I miss her, but Jolene and Zuzu already seem like they’re over it? They aren’t calling out for her anymore, so I think they realized she’s gone for good. I thought about getting another fawn runner, but i don’t want to deal with ducklings again right now.

Anyways, I think I’ll still put the nesting boxes in. If I ever go away from having ducks, I could easily use it for something else that would use the nesting boxes. As for ventilation, the coop I’m going to be copying seemed to have quite a bit, so I’m not too worried about that. I’m more concerned about what it might end up costing lol
