This was posted on the Fort Worth website and reported on the news:

Due to increasing reports of cock-fighting and noise complaints related to roosters, the City of Fort Worth is considering ordinance changes similar to those which Dallas, Arlington and 24 other Texas cities have passed prohibiting or restricting the keeping of roosters within the city limits. City officials invite all Fort Worth residents to attend one of three public meetings to discuss the issue and to provide an opportunity for all those interested to be heard on this topic.

All meetings will be held at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden in the Dorothea Leonhardt Lecture Hall at 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd. The meetings are scheduled for:

* July 15 at 6:30 p.m.
* July 24 at 9 a.m.
* July 29 at 6:30 p.m.

A Spanish-language interpreter will be available at all meetings.

The facility is accessible to people with disabilities.

All Fort Worth residents need to voice their opinion.
They are punishing everyone for the problems with a few.
What they need to do is make being a spectator at a cock fight illegal, which it is not in Texas at this time.
If there are no spectators, then they make no money fighting.

Check the noise ordinance--chances are pretty good that it already covers roosters that are too loud, and if someone chooses to insulate their coop, bring their bird into the house or otherwise keep its volume low during early morning hours, they should be allowed to keep their roosters.

As for your suggestion of making it a crime to be a spectator, that is what we have here. Also, possession of thevarious artificial implements used is illegal. At a bust a month or so ago, there were also charges filed of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, child abuse and not sure what else for a few people who had taken their children with them. It may be that the penalties need to be more severe thanm they are currently, as well.

I know the subject is absolutely taboo here, but I hope the moderators will allow a bit of leeway in this situation as the main idea is to separate in the city's eyes those who have their boys for legitimate reasons from those who have them for other purposes.
