forum reorganization

Oh yeah I can feel the pain of reading thru all those threads! It takes me a while to "shuffle" thru the pages to find information in the Welsummer threads. However I would NOT ever lose them out in the cyberspace...too many valuable, most experienced breeders out there sharing their information that would literally like a "Bible" to us to read in the ins and outs of the breeds.

I agree. We already have enough "your birds don't meet these particular standards so they aren't real (whatever the breed being discussed is)". We have folks here who are only interested in exhibition birds, others who are making their living commercially farming poultry to folks who just want mobile yard art and every conceivable combination in between. I like it that way because every one can learn from every one else. One person's or organization's standards does not necessarily meet the needs of everyone else.

I do think folks need to learn better how the advanced search features work. You can really narrow down what you are looking for that way.

I agree with this besides the kid remark. Not all kids post 200 smilies after everything. Also, some kids do take things seriously, like breeding, and topic I want to learn about. IM NOT TRYING TO START A FIGHT, just posting my opinion.

I don't know who the kids are and who the adults are, but I don't imagine the kids are the worst smiley offenders.

This one:

yuckyuck.gif

should not be allowed, especially when it is the only new content below a quoted portion.

This one:

pop.gif

too. It's pretty annoying to subscribe to a thread, see in your inbox that there has been a response, and then go take a look only to find someone has posted a popcorn smiley and added no content.

But, smileys should perhaps be a whole different thread...

I rarely subscribe. When I do it is usually in a forum that I do not read regularly. For instance, if I have an incubation question I will post in the appropriate forum and subscribe to the thread since it is not a forum that I read regularly. That's the sort of thing I might be interested in receiving a quick reply, too, and I check e-mail far more often than I check forums.

Well I have to say that this thread is making me feel very unwelcome. I love the Marans thread and it is what keeps me coming back to this forum several times a day. The length of the threads is fine with me they are so full of info. Sorry if the smilies bother some of you. I am guilty of
pop.gif
droolin.gif
and this
caf.gif
. I did not know this was a bad thing. I post these to show that I am interested and not having a lot of knowledge I may not have anything to say. I thought they were to show that I am following a thread and that I want to learn more. Still slightly new, it makes me sad that you may change some of my favorite threads. I like how it is. That's my opinion.

The Marans thread is an example of what everyone is talking about. A lot of the stuff posted there is "chit chat" and some off topic stuff, instead of talking about breeding, tips, and stuff like that. The problem brought up with the size is for newbies that want to learn about the breed itself. Smilies arent a bad thing, just some people dont like excessive smiles. That is an opinion. This is what I have gathered, Hope that helped.

I used to read the Marans thread, but I dont bother with it anymore. Its too difficult to navigate. I was glad to see a thread spin off on Wheatens, and read that one regularly. Much less extraneous content in it.

I really do like the idea of each breed having its own forum. Could be a nightmare for Rob, tho. Would make it so much easier reading about each breed by topics, other than one huge runaway thread that isnt worth anything to anyone.
