Yeah not all "kids" are like that. I'm not. Search my name and see what I have posted. I'm here to compete with the adults. I'm not here to have 15 smiles on a post. I want to breed and show poultry to show in OPEN shows with some of the best. I think that some people are immature but so are some adults like the ones that still watch cartoons and are 25 with no kids. I don't care if anyone knows how old I am, but we don't get taken seriously if we do. I think a forum restructure is in order. I like the idea of sub forums. So that way the Breeds, Genetics, and Showing area is more like a breed club forum with lots of different more accessable topics about one breed. Not totally stuffy like a breed club forum. What makes BYC, BYC is the chit chat and the friend making. I just think we need some more user friendly ways to find our information.

(I'm not trying to start a fight either, I just didn't care for that comment.)

For example: A thread on RIR eggs gets heated and closed or removed. That doesn't mean another one can't be started as long as it doesn't go down the same path as the other one that was removed. Well, after you've searched and if you still aren't able to find what you're looking for, I don't see why you couldn't ask your question on any given "breed" thread. Most folks are (overly) eager to respond to those seeking advise about their favorite breed(s).

There's no such thing as a stupid question, in my book. The only way to learn is by asking!

IF the case is something has been answered in the past, which most of the time is very possible- we are discussing chickens, the topics tend to be along the same lines regardless of breed, nobody is going to "bite your head off" for repeating a question... IMO. We all know how long these threads can get, all you have to do though is jump in and join the conversation!

Lots of really great ideas and suggestions. Let's keep this topic ON topic and full of suggestions vs. debates.

The BYC Staff do a fantastic job of listening to suggestions. We often spend hours... sometimes weeks discussing ideas and weighing the pros and cons of each option. Trust us... with 75,000 members and 5 million posts, there aren't any "black / white", one size fits all, please everyone, options!

GUARANTEED!

Again, we listen to the feedback, review it, and discuss it. If we don't implement something it isn't because we didn't listen. It might not even be because we disagree. Some changes are just technically difficult to implement and some would be VERY expensive and time consuming to do.

So, we're listing and taking notes. A couple things that we want to make clear:

1) It isn't anybody's right to tell others not to start threads on a topic except the moderators! PERIOD! Members can report posts or topics if they feel there is a duplicate thread, but we probably won't be inclined to take action on these since very often questions are specific to a certain case. The only exception would be something like this: Someone posts, "What color eggs do xxxyy lay?" A member could, in a very friendly manner, reply with a link to an existing thread where the exact question is posed and addressed... that would be appropriate

2) All members should use better subject / titles for their posts... ALWAYS! Also, the first post in a topic will often determine the tone and path of a topic. If you want a serious discussion in your topic, say so. If you want it to be a lively conversation with lots of chit-chat... say so!

3) We do have policies about informational topics being derailed. Help us by having very specific titles and clear goals of the thread in the first post, and report posts that are taking serious topics off course and we'll be able to enforce our policies MUCH easier.


Keep the helpful ideas and suggestions coming, and make sure to pay close attention to the three points above!

I have no problems with smilies at all. I don't subscribe to topics very often. It was a bad way of wording.

I agree with nifty, let's get back to suggestions. I think that the breeds should have their own tab.with the sub topics too. Showing should have their own tab, and genetics should have their own tab. Just my own 2 cents.

I kinda like how the Sexlink threads were set up and was thinking maybe that could be how some of the other threads should be. Where we have two threads for them, we had Tim's sticky ( though I see now it has been removed from the sticky form and placed in the Notable References sticky but I dont think many would think to look there for it) but it has an amazing first post packed full of info, and the following posts have been for the most part, just straight to the point questions and answers and not much discussion and random pictures. And then we also have the thread the Sexlink Thread that PepsNick started and thats were we have some of the" how to "info on the first page and then most of the chatty discussion about everyone sexlinks and our experience with them and posting pictures of sexlinks . And I like this set up becuase it keeps all the chatty stuff and pictures in one thread and leaves Tim's thread with just mainly the questions and answers that are easy to find without lots of pages of discussion and pics. So maybe it would be easier if some of the other threads were set up this way ??????

a few things about each breed having it's own forum... (that i could see making a few issues)

1) if each breed had it's own forum the the forums would be come cluttered
2) The Breeds/Genetics/Showing would become very hard to navigate
3) Even with sub-forums (i don't even think the software can do those) it would be hard to moderate and would increase the main forums page length.

I agree that the forums should be reorganized.
