I have three broody mallard ducks that are sitting on 3 eggs all together. When they started three weeks ago, they had 14 eggs. There is one rooster that keeps bothering them and trying to breed them, and he scatters the eggs. Well, needless to say, when I candled the eggs last night, all three of the remaining were clear.
My question is, can you foster ducklings to broody ducks? I know you can with chickens. I will be putting the chickens and the non-broody ducks into another pen tonight (except for the broody silkie with chicks) so that they will get a break from the others.
I have 5 little 3 day old ducklings that I would like to give to the mothers, but I don't want them to get hurt. The ducks are extremely protective over their nest right now, and I don't want them to be using all this energy for nothing!
