thanks that would be wonderful.

yes I have seen that one....very good video...however it is a WAY too personal for me and there is NO WAY I could RIP it's head off at the end!

Not really sure of the necessity of ripping off the head???? Seems like unnecessary trauma.

It was bleeding out and after a few she grabbed its head and ripped it off....seemed the chicken started struggling as she was removing the head. Kind of bothered me...seemed unnessasary to me.

We waited until they were dead before removing the head.

I held the neck at an angle while they bled out, and when they started to convulse (they were already bled out for the most part) I let go and walked away. The seizures at the end are the worst part. It's what bothers me most, not sure why.

I sure think we all adapt to what makes us most comfortable. I'm still learning, but putting the chickens in a small tractor the day before helps when it's time to catch 'em. Then, I pull them out quickly, get them upside down to sleep, into the kill cone/milk jug, and a quick cut. It's over very quickly. I keep a 5-gallon bucket underneath, and place a large trash bag as a liner in the bag. As the bird bleeds out, I pull the bag up over the bird. Not much mess at all. A quick rinse on the way over to the scalding bath, and I'm good to go.

Yes I think that would be what I would do if I do the slashing the throat way of killing. Seems like if you hold the head angled a little they would bleed out faster and be better off .

Do you think it helps the bird at all having the bag over it....saw a video once where the lady would do the slash and then lower them into a trash can that had a black trash bag in it...she seemed to think the darkness made the chicken more calm during the death process.
