FOUND A CHICKEN? help.

I'm still not sure shes a cornish.. her legs look really THIN compared to the other cornish I see...

I want to ask everyones opinion here... what should I do? Should I keep her and try to make her less...spazzy? As I've stated, I was really wanting a duck.... I found a 'Bird Eye' corn steamer thing in our freezer, when I get home from school tomorrow I'll be making it, getting a towel, and sitting in the lean-to with her and try to get her to come to me with it. We're stopping tomorrow to buy some organic chicken feed as well.

In the mean-while.. I'm trying to decide if I should get her friends or not. As I stated earlier, I was not intending on getting chickens her size.. and I dont really know if I could put her with some bantams like I wanted. @_@ BLAH.

My girl is with standards and two bantam hens with no problem except that she is the low girl on the totem pole.
Is there anyway you can actually weigh her and get us a better comb pic. She looks VERY young and to be that est. weight she is most likely a CX. My hen did not have thick legs like the boys did but as she has gotten older they are getting bigger.
And if she is a CX you need to get her layer pellets to help with the calcium she needs, even if she is young, plus its low in protein and if you don't plan on eating her, that is what she will need to maintain a better weight.
I never planned on having Cxs either but they found me and I am a sucker for special needs animals so they came and stayed

What will you do with her if you decide not to keep her?

Oh what sounds is she making? Is she cheeping?

If you don't want a chicken, maybe you can find a home for her with someone in your area who keeps chickens, and then you can get the duck that you wanted. There are some hen rescue farms who might take her too. If she's not the right pet for you, then try to find a good home for her.

I'm still torn on what to do, I really do like her, shes a neat chicken.. but Do I want a duck? Yes. Do I want a chicken? Yes. Am I prepared for trying to rehabilitate her and find her a friend? I honestly dont know. I've never kept ANY type of bird before. I've succesfully rehabilitated dogs, even cats, after abuse; But a bird is different on a whole new level. I'm about to go out and check on her, and I'm sending my dad some design plans for a coop.

We might have a home set up for her, we know someone with a farm who doesnt slaughter their chickens who may take her. My mother is calling them today.

Where are you located FI? I would be more than happy to give her a loving home with lots of friends....I have other special needs chickens (crossed beaks, runts, AE survivors) and she would be more than welcome here.....
If I am too far....there has to be someone that can take her if you do not want to keep her for rehabilitation??
(Local organization etc.)

Im officially in love. I went out to check on her, she ate food out of my hand and let me pet her.

In other news, I'm in english right now, and telling a friend bout her my teacher was like "I want her. =-o" I forgot she owns a farm. LOL. We'll see.

I have a kaki campbell duck that thinks he is a chicken, if you get a duck maybe they can be friends! only you can't put a duckling in with a chicken, they have to be raised as babies together or the older chicken will peck at the ducks.
If it were me, I would get a duck and some baby chicks, and when they get bigger you can put them all together.
I love watching my ducks and chickens all roam around, especially when it is raining like today, the ducks are out in the puddles!!!!

That does sound cute Zats, But That still leaves me with a full grown chicken!

I'm really excited to get home to her. Im going to make some corn and try to get her to come to me...

She may look full grown but she is still a chick. Cornish X do not live long lives but with proper food management she can live a LONG life for them. I know of some that are still getting around after 3 yrs

A duck can be a great companion for her....and I just knew you fall in love with her
