**Found a Cockrel** What breed is he? Does he look healthy?

Hello!


About two weeks ago this little man showed up at the bottom of our fields, he has been hanging around for a while now, eating the seeds dropped from the hay and bits of feed dropped by the cattle. We have been round the neighbours, and no one knows who he belongs to. I feel very sorry for him!
We are considering keeping him if he is not claimed, and maybe getting some chickens to go with him. We have plenty of space and my mother in law has kept chickens before.

Please can you tell me

1) what breed he is
2) how old he might be?
3) does he look healthy (bearing in mind he has been out in the snow for about 2/3 weeks)
4) how can we catch him
5) what sort of chickens would he go well with

I know the photo is not brilliantly clear, but I could not get much closer to him!

The comb and wattles look to be dubbed... at least from where I'm sitting. I'd put money he got loose from a fighting installation.

he's a game rooster and a good way to catch him, make one spot to throw him some feed than make a little pen with a top on it off to the side. than get a hen and put her in a small wire cage inside the little pen and give her food on the oppistie side of the door opening. After he walks in the pen to her and her food, shut the door. This might take some time but it will work same as making the pen and slowing moving the food closer to it till he is in the pen. Also when you feed him make a call (the same call every day) I do here chick chick, when the birds hear this , they know its feed time and come running. good luck

you can use a live trap to catch him if he is te only one. if no live trap take a pet crate place food a far back in it as possible but away from the openings so he cant reach it tie a string to the door an just wait for him to go in it the pull the door shut keeping string tight as you walk to cage to latch it.

cant tell health by pic as he could have resporatory problems. cant see legs to see if he has legmites

I definitely would bet he's a cock that got loose from a fighting installation. He looks to be about 6-8 mo and fairly healthy. I would recommend doing what ramirez framing or hdowden suggested. Good luck!
