I’m a chicken gal, and a new-to-chickens kind of chicken gal at that. This little kid was at the barn where I board my horse tonight and had been there for the past few days. They also have a commercial egg operation on the property.

It can fly and is walking around pecking at things. I walked up and picked it up. This is a pigeon right? A juvenile? What breed? Sex? Has the little crest and light leg feathering. It seemed a little thin but not emaciated. Ate chicken feed ravenously. Lots of grit in its crop, normal poop, no obvious injuries.

Is it just hungry? We caught it and I’m willing to take care of it if it is healthy but I need help from you all lol…..help!

Update - I looked at the local pigeon fanciers club and the closest member has the following breeds: Norwich cropper, fantail, archangel, Modena. I think this one is possibly an archangel???

Looks like you were chosen like I was with Squabble, as I found him sitting all on his lonesome, picked him up, took him home and only then did he reveal that he could fly and was healthy! 😆 Looks a bit older than when I first got Squabble, so probably around 3-4 months old is my estimate on your pidge. Sex is currently unknown, hard to tell with pidges. Only found out what Squabble was when he matured and started courting and going all broody.
As for breed, perhaps a Chinese Owl Pigeon? Or an owl pigeon mix?
Could also be an archangel x fantail too.

When I found Squabble, probably about 2 month old.

I use a large dog crate for Squabble, with a regular branch poking though and a flatter perch as well, pidges prefer their feet to be flat when resting, though also enjoy variety of perches to choose between. He has to have daily flight time in the room due to being unable to fly around in the crate. ^^

As for what I feed him, he has a mix of wild bird seed mix and finch seed mix, though you can pretty much use any grain/chicken corn mix as well, but the more variety, the better. He also has grit available in a seperate bowl. He also enjoys the occasional lettuce leaf (sweet gem, romain and round lettuce. Just avoid iceberg) as a treat, but you don't want to give too much or it'll upset their stomach.

Here's the crate, with a bonus diamond dove. 😆 Squbble is in his nest sitting on two chicken eggs.
