I found a goose on the road today - it seemed out of sorts, very wet and wobbling around, it couldn't fly and wouldn't run. I was able to catch it and get it off the road. I brought it home and put it into my extra chicken coop space by itself. I just don't know what to feed it. Is it alright to feed it the chicken scratch we have? I've given it a good size container of water. It is still scared and disoriented right now. I don't plan on keeping it, I just need to make sure it stays healthy until I can find the owner or someone who wants it.

Welcome to BYC! Is it a wild goose or domestic goose? Either way, go to Tractor Supply and get some flock raiser for it.

If it is a wild goose, call wildlife rescue and make arrangements to surrender it to them.

Can you give a picture?

Thank you for asking for a picture. I initially thought it was a goose, but on further research, I found that it is a Muscovy duck. It seems to be doing okay with my chickens and what I feed them. I have been trying to get him some extra greens along with the grain I feed my chickens. We provided him a water source for him to get in if he wants, I haven't seen him get in it but he has taken a quick sort of "bath" once while I was out there. He was even the first to figure out my new chicken feeder. I tried to show the chickens how to use it, he came by and accidentally stepped on the peddle and helped himself to some grain. I have been looking online, but can't find a lot of information about feeding them.

Chicken feed should be sufficient for right now ultimately you're helping I lost duck so anything is better than nothing. A few days of just chicken feed is not going to hurt any way shape or form. If you want to go to Tractor Supply and get flock raiser that's cool too but not necessary.

Are you getting to like the little guy? definitely looks like a Drake? Ducks are pretty cool man.

Have you thought putting him on Craigslist? Or maybe get a few hens?

I think we are going to keep him, we have a hard time letting go of animals once we get them. So, we might be looking for a few hens. We don't have tractor supply store on my side of the island, barely any place to find farm feed at all. He does seem to be doing well so far, I just hope someone will know what else I could feed him to make sure he stays healthy.

Just put chicken feed with some brewer's yeast ducks need a little more niacin which is B3. Alternatively you could just get some B3 pills crush them up and Add them to the chicken feed. . It's pretty simple and it seems like you're doing an excellent job so far!
