Our RIR has apparently made a secret hiding spot and has been laying her eggs there for at least two weeks! We just discovered it and there are 17 eggs!!! How can I determine if the eggs are ok to eat? Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm a big fan of "When in doubt, throw it out!" When I find a nest, I( would want to be sure she's not actually broody, in case there are chicks developing. If the eggs are cold, they aren't. Then I would pitch them, and at least plan to get eggs every day from this nest. Or, confine everyone in their coop and run until later in the day, after she's layed her egg for that day. Mary

Thanks for the advice! We don't have any roosters so I'm sure there are no chicks. Darn! So many eggs lost.
