found a missing hen

Or you could try replacing them with fake eggs...I have some great wood toy ones. Might be safer in the event of rotten eggs. Anyone have an opinion on exchanging out eggs after then hen has been sitting for a while?

Ok I went out to candle, I checked a few eggs I collected today from others and thought it looked like they were firtle. Some of the eggs were too thick to see the light glow through. My sitting Hen's eggs look dark and the light didn't go through them at all. The link I checked out for development stages, I think I wouldn't see anything, now its been almost 3 weeks. They would be almost too big for egg. She didn't seem to mind me taking any eggs to check. She lets me pet her too. I hope I get a surprise soon!

When I found her 7 days ago I thought she had 5-6 eggs, today she has been off her eggs for about an hour to eat and drink. Looks like she wouldn't put up with roosters when they tried to get close to her. Anyway I count 11 eggs now. Tried to candle and egg and it didn't light up at all. Could that mean babies maybe???? I hope she gets back on the eggs!

OMG!!!! This morning I saw 1 baby chick out of 11 eggs so far!!!! I am soooo excited! So my question is, I ordered 5 baby chicks from feed store that will be coming on June 18th. Do I cancle order or can I introduce 2 day olds with 1 week olds? I wont know how many of the 10 eggs will hatch until later today, but I got one!!!!!!!

Well I have been trying to post pictures but I'm not very good at computer. Will try to have Hubby help me tonight with pics. The mommy looks happy. I hope the rest or more hatch! I almost moved her to the coop with her eggs last night! So glad I didn't!!!! Thanks for all the support my fellow chicken addicts!

Oh this is sooo exciting! I wasn't able to post earlier, but yes, since you couldn't see anything, it is full of baby chickies! YAY! I don't think you should put a 2 day old with 1 wk olds. You can either cancel, or just have more babies and put them in a brooder!

What kind of chicken was she? What do you think the babies are?

I bet she is sooo proud of herself!

She is a black australorp, roosters are RIR, a mixed huge white and black, little bit of brown, guy with a buttercup comb, I think EE mix with white leghorn, and a EE, now in jail for 4 week, I have a turken, 2 feather footed and an EE. I don't know how long firtle part lasted before I found her and had locked them up. With 12 hen and 7 roosters I had to do it. But the one chick looks like her at this 1st day. I can't wait to hear more chirps! But I don't want to pick her up to see.
