Well, Mr. Pigeon Raiser couldn't come out to get "Dani" our not so pure Eng Trumpeter...so the daughter loaded her into the car (had to put dark blanket on the cage for she kept sticking her head thru) and took off for Mr. Pigeon Raiser a couple hours directly East of us. The ride was fine. Dani - our Trumpeter did very well. (I didn't realize that Indiana's toll roads give change in $1.00 COINS! UG! So we have 13 of them!)
We arrived at the house and Jim (Pigeon Raiser) removed Dani from the cage and determined she is a hen and has NO bands. He brought her to the coop (which is HUGE) and she quickly made friends and took some very long drinks of water (clear clean water).
I'll be honest, at the beginning I wasn't too certain about Jim. I worried he wasn't a pigeon raiser at all. But those fears went away as soon as I saw his set-up and the pigeons. He has a light brown one just like yours deerman. He has some that puff out their chests, too. Some all white which are gorgeous! One little all black baby. Now, he has the mystery pigeon, thanks to me.
He isn't quite sure what she is. She does have trumpeter, but with the double crest, he feels she was crossed with "something" else.
She seemed to me to be fine with her new home. Away from my dogs, hawks, insane neighbors. With her peeps, as it were.
Thank you all for your help. I had NO idea there were so many different pigeons!! Some tamer than my yorkie!! If it were financially realistic for me, I wouldn't mind having a smallish coop.
ETA: I also didn't know you can get all spectrum light bulbs for those nasty fluorescent bases!!! He had them in the coop. Along with a "sunning" area that he closes up in freezing weather. If I were a pigeon, life would be pretty great at Mr. Jim's. ♥
