Found a PRETTY pigeon in NW Indiana...help?

Well, Mr. Pigeon Raiser couldn't come out to get "Dani" our not so pure Eng Trumpeter...so the daughter loaded her into the car (had to put dark blanket on the cage for she kept sticking her head thru) and took off for Mr. Pigeon Raiser a couple hours directly East of us. The ride was fine. Dani - our Trumpeter did very well. (I didn't realize that Indiana's toll roads give change in $1.00 COINS! UG! So we have 13 of them!)

We arrived at the house and Jim (Pigeon Raiser) removed Dani from the cage and determined she is a hen and has NO bands. He brought her to the coop (which is HUGE) and she quickly made friends and took some very long drinks of water (clear clean water).

I'll be honest, at the beginning I wasn't too certain about Jim. I worried he wasn't a pigeon raiser at all. But those fears went away as soon as I saw his set-up and the pigeons. He has a light brown one just like yours deerman. He has some that puff out their chests, too. Some all white which are gorgeous! One little all black baby. Now, he has the mystery pigeon, thanks to me.

He isn't quite sure what she is. She does have trumpeter, but with the double crest, he feels she was crossed with "something" else.

She seemed to me to be fine with her new home. Away from my dogs, hawks, insane neighbors. With her peeps, as it were.

Thank you all for your help. I had NO idea there were so many different pigeons!! Some tamer than my yorkie!! If it were financially realistic for me, I wouldn't mind having a smallish coop.

ETA: I also didn't know you can get all spectrum light bulbs for those nasty fluorescent bases!!! He had them in the coop. Along with a "sunning" area that he closes up in freezing weather. If I were a pigeon, life would be pretty great at Mr. Jim's. ♥

english do have double crest the beak crest is small , if that one has two large crest ,that a russia trumpter. sure doesn't look like a mixed breed

first try to catch it. put it in a warm cage, with some food and water. (if finding pigeon food is difficult, standard mixed bird seed will do.) keep it in a calm quiet room. check to see if it has a band. put up some adds on craigslist or simmiler reasorses. look for local pigeon fanciers who may know people who keep this breed. goodluck, and keep us posted.

I hope he finds that out. I should email him your post, to let him know that she may be an English. Thank you

Yes, we caught her. We drove her in the cage to a gentleman that breeds and raises several types of pigeons, a couple hours away from us. I found his name online and contacted as many people as I could. I had a FOUND SHOW PIGEON FOUND - listing in craigslist for my area. I worried for I don't know how to care for a pigeon like this. She was far too tame and trusting - especially of barking dogs!! She actually wanted to be with my two dogs. That worried me for most dogs in my neighborhood look and act vicious. My yorkie and bichon are not, but who knows what they are capable of doing?

She is in a pigeon coop now. She is being taken care of very well. I will contact the man that took her in with the info that English Trumpeters DO have double crests. He knows she has trumpeter because of the way she acts around the other pigeons. She seemed to know coop life!! *I am just happy no predatory birds could get her, for she didn't fly that well. She deserved better than my rafters of my garage, too.

I told my daughter that since we have rescued bunnies, turtles, cats, dogs, (some bugs

and a pigeon-- all we need is a horse to round out the animal kingdom. lol Hope we never have to do that. But if one finds his way in my backyard - I will do all I can.

Thanks again.

Was recently told he/she may be a trumpeter - russian? Not sure. He is staying in the garage and I am hoping I can locate a birder soon before a pigeon eating bird gets to him. I have NO idea really what to feed him or what to do. Not too many people in this area are knowledgeable.

Thanks.
