We found a very skinny puppy alone out in a field yesterday about 2 miles from our house. When we opened the door she jumped right in and we knew she would get shot by the owner of the cattle who are in the field if we didn't take her. We posted several lost signs around the area, posted on Craigslist, and alerted the shelter. However, 24 hours later we haven't heard a word. The pads on her feet are pretty cracked and she is definitely too thin. In the right light, I can count her ribs. I get the feeling that her owners have long forgotten her. Maybe not though. She looks like she is about 4-5 months old (maybe), and I am guessing she is part German wirehaired pointer and part pit bull. She has a little wiry mustache and a short tail. She also has pit bull eyes and face though. She is SO sweet and such a good girl! She slept in the crate without a peep all last night and when I took her out to go potty she didn't even have to go. She had no accidents and is very good around the chickens. She loves people and eats a LOT of food already. If her owners don't turn up, she might just have a home here with us.

However, I will try not to get too attached in the meantime. Here are some pics, she looks a lot smaller in person and thinner too. Not the best because she can be pretty bouncy!

Bless you for taking her in! Yes, like hotrodflash said, many people dump animals in the country. She might have owners, though. Hopefully they don't turn up. Honestly, if you let your pet run loose and put itself in danger, then you're not a very responsible owner.

Yeah, I have searched for lost dog signs and keep checking cl...nothing. Katie, she doesn't have mange, she just has random spots of brown fur all over. Aside from some dandruff, she seems fine. I keep checking her over too, but she seems pretty healthy! I hope she hwasn't sleeping outside before we found her, it has been in the 20's almost every night!

The shelter probably thinks we are crazy! Just last Tuesday we found two black lab mixes on the freeway off ramp. They were VERY skittish. One was growling at us and eating garbage. The other one appeared to have a broken front leg and could not stand up. We called animal control since we could not get near them, and I hope they are okay. There are dumped cats around here all the time and someone recently dumped off an entire litter of kittens and 4 adult cats also on the off ramp. They were very skittish too though, and none of the rescue groups would come get them. People can be SO mean! I volunteer at the animal shelter almost every week and some of those dogs have the most horrible stories to tell. Yet they are all so sweet. I wish we could save them all!

Any guesses on what mix or how old she is? If they don't claim her soon, we will ask the vet when we take her.

Thank you! We were actually just trying to figure out if she is spayed or not. My guess is no, considering her age and how careless her owners are. If we keep her, she will definitely be spayed though.
